Primary HLTA

Why did I become an HLTA?
I have worked in schools for 15 years, the past 8 years at my present school, Parklands Junior. It was the next step in my professional development and my head teacher was encouraging me to take it. I wanted to be more involved in helping to educate the children.

What do I like about being an HLTA?
When I was on the course it gave me an opportunity to assess my work. Since passing I have enjoyed the challenge of taking a variety of classes in different year groups. It broadens my knowledge as well as theirs. As a TA I was in the unique position of watching a variety of teachers and learning a range of teaching skills which I can now draw on. It is my chance to have an input into lessons and take ownership of that teaching. It’s about being part of a team and I feel I can contribute more now that I have my HLTA status

What advantages for the children and the school?
When taking a class the children have someone who can provide continuity. They have someone who knows them and how the school operates. The school has a conscientious, value for money professional who cares about the children and the school. Barbara Reeves, HLTA, Parklands Junior
