Leadership & Management
My name is Michael Wade and I am currently enjoying my second year as Deputy Headteacher at Brady Primary School. I have taught for a total of nine years and have spent eight of them working for the London Borough of Havering.
Having moved out of the borough for a single year, I realised how much I took for granted about being a teacher here. The consultants at the borough are marvellous, always responding quickly to queries, supporting new ideas and new thinking. In my previous authority no one responded at all to my phone calls (when I was a maths co-ordinator) and if you did speak to someone you were made to feel like a burden. It really shocked me! In Havering, however, I have always been made to feel valued and have been supported at every level from class teacher, to co-ordinator, senior teacher and deputy head. Only by going elsewhere did I realise how good the support network was and I would be very reluctant to ever leave the borough again for this reason.
The children in Havering, relatively speaking, are keen and well behaved and they are a pleasure to work with. I have never once not wanted to go to work and hope to eventually gain a headship in the borough.
